# Slack Guide

Thanks so much for your interest in joining Apache Cloudberry's
Slack channels!

Due to Slack service region policy changes, the original `apache-cloudberry.slack.com` workspace has been discontinued. The current workspace is `asf-cloudberry.slack.com`. Please note that as a third-party service, the Slack workspace may be subject to future service interruptions. Slack serves as a supplementary communication channel in addition to our primary channels: mailing lists and GitHub.

We have different platforms for our community members to communicate,
including [GitHub
Issues](https://github.com/apache/cloudberry/issues), and [GitHub
Discussions](https://github.com/apache/cloudberry/discussions). They're
all asynchronous communication channels, but if you want real-time
chatting with other people, you can join Slack.

## Channels

We have diverse channels for different topics in Slack, you can join
the following channels:

| Channel                | Description                                                                                                                                        |
|------------------------|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `#cloudberry-backup`   | Discussions about backup and recovery operations for Apache Cloudberry.                                                                            |
| `#cloudberry-core`     | Core database development discussions, including kernel features, query optimization, and performance improvements.                                |
| `#cloudberry-pxf`      | Discussions about Apache Cloudberry PXF (Platform Extension Framework) for external data access.                                                   |
| `#docs`                | The channel for documentation and website updates.                                                                                                 |
| `#ecosystem-extension` | Discussions about ecosystem tools, extensions, and integrations with Apache Cloudberry.                                                            |
| `#events`              | A place to share events relevant to the Apache Cloudberry community, including webinars, meetups, conferences, summits, etc.                       |
| `#general`             | This channel is for workspace-wide communication and discussions. All members are in this channel.                                                 |
| `#introductions`       | New to Slack? Please do say hello! Let us know who you are, and what your interests are, so we can help you to kick-start as smoothly as possible! |
| `#random`              | A channel to post and discuss random topics not directly related to Apache Cloudberry.                                                             |
| `#release-cicd`        | CICD pipeline, build, and release topics.                                                                                                          |

After joining, we encourage you to share a bit about yourself and what
brings you here at the `#introductions` channel, so the community
members can get to know you better.

## Ground rules

**Be kind!** We lead by our community [Code of
Conduct](https://www.apache.org/foundation/policies/conduct), please
be kind and keep open. We want to make a friendly space for all
members.

**Avoid global notifications.** If you're not the admin or owner,
please avoid using global notifications such as @here/@channel etc in
all channels. We want to decrease noise for community members.

**No ads, no spam.** Please don't spam others through DMs. Share
random thoughts in the `#random` channel. The first offense results in
a warning, repeated offense may lead to removal.
